Iran’s Protests Intensify Amid Economic Struggles
The unrest, fueled by deteriorating economic conditions, was reported by a news agency on Sunday.
Demonstrations have taken place in 26 provinces, ranging from street marches to labor strikes and university-led movements.
According to the detailed account by the press association, founded in 2009 by Iranian human rights defenders, the wave of protests has persisted despite heavy security presence and attempts to disperse gatherings.
Seventeen universities joined the movement, underscoring the broad participation across different sectors of society.
The turmoil has claimed the lives of at least 20 individuals, including one member of the security forces.
Another 51 people have been wounded, many due to pellets and plastic bullets fired by authorities. Victims include students, workers, and everyday citizens, with ages spanning from 16 to 45.
The news agency also documented the assault of lawyer Nasser Rezaei Ahangarany by security forces during demonstrations in Khorramabad on January 3.
Separately, a news outlet reported that at least 30 people were injured in protests in Malekshahi, further highlighting the widespread nature of the unrest.
