Bus Crash in Afghanistan Claims 76 Lives

(MENAFN) At least 76 individuals, among them numerous minors, lost their lives in a devastating crash in western Afghanistan.

The disaster involved a passenger bus transporting migrants returning from Iran, which collided with both a truck and a motorcycle.

Following the impact, the bus reportedly caught fire, adding to the severity of the tragedy, as conveyed by a news agency on Wednesday.

The accident occurred late Tuesday along the Herat-Islam Qala highway in Herat province.

According to the news agency, this route was being used by the bus after entering Afghanistan from Iran. The bus was en route to Kabul when the fatal incident took place.

Authorities from the Taliban’s interim administration in the area verified that 76 individuals lost their lives in the crash.

Additionally, three other people who suffered injuries were promptly taken to nearby medical centers for treatment.

Ahmadullah Muttaqi, who serves as the acting director of information and culture in the province, stated that the bus originated in Iran.

It had crossed into Afghanistan at the Islam Qala border in Herat before heading toward the nation's capital, Kabul.
